Hairmyres Hospital

Client / Main Contractor: ISS

Building: The Energy Centre

Consultant: Hawthorne Boyle Ltd

Type: Mechanical

Value: £185,000

WMQ have enjoyed working for ISS at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride upgrading valves and pipe work within the existing Energy Centre.

The first part of the project began with the replacement of the 200mm main circuit valves and this was carried out using nightshift working to minimise boiler plant downtime. In addition, all the pipe work was prefabricated off site allowing the initial works to be completed over just 2 nights with no noticeable impact on hospital heating and hot water systems. The remaining works required the use of temporary packaged boiler plant, consisting of duty and standby 2000kW boilers with associated plant and flue system, as the temporary heat source for the existing boiler plant during the valve and main heating header replacement works. Upon completion of the system upgrade and its subsequent re-commissioning, the temporary plant pictured here was decommissioned and removed from site.

The completion of these works will allow safe and efficient MTHW heating system circuit isolations for future maintenance works in the years to come
