A couple of the operatives recently had the privilege of taking part in a careers day at Lairdsland Primary School in Kirkintilloch. WMQ are providing a full electrical and mechanical fit out, as well as a solar installation at the new school building, in partnership with the main contractor Morgan Sindall.

Prendush Lleshi and Keith McMahon were on hand to answer questions relating to plumbing and electrical engineering with the Primary 5, 6 and 7’s. The pupils were interested in how to go about training and becoming qualified for the respective roles as well as what the day to day activities included. They had the opportunity to handle some of the hardware used by the respective trades and were given some tips on how to make the tools perform efficiently.

The younger pupils from the school had more of a ‘show and tell’ experience, where they learned the names of the tools and what they were used for. This included being able to handle individual tools, so there were many watchful eyes on the youngsters making sure that everyone left the area with 10 fingers!

This £900k+ contract with Morgan Sindall, which is due for completion in the spring of 2015, also includes a 20kw Solar PV system. This will enhance the buildings already fantastic ‘green’ credentials providing the school with an ongoing supply of energy via sunlight.
